Tea at The Empress -Tue

What's this activity?

Get ready to live like royalty at Fairmont Empress as you savor the world-renowned traditional English afternoon tea. The Empress’s deliciously dainty finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with strawberry jam and tempting pastries are served on exquisite china gifted to the hotel by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1939. Linger awhile to listen to the mellow sounds of live classical piano in the refined surroundings of the hotel’s elegant and airy turn-of-the century Lobby Lounge. AFTERNOON TEA HISTORY The storied tradition of afternoon tea began in 1840 in England when the seventh Duchess of Bedford found herself peckish around 4pm. Dinner was served fashionably late at 8pm, so she began to order tea with bread, butter, and cake to her room. Soon enough, she began to invite her friends to enjoy it with her. By the 1880s, afternoon tea had become a high fashion event served in the drawing room with silver teapots, fine linens, elegant teacups, and world-renowned teas. ON THE MENU On your tea tiers, you'll find a menu resplendent with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The strawberry jam for the freshly baked scones is made in-house from local berries, honey from the Empress’s own bee hives and lavender from the rooftop garden. The teas are ethically sourced from the top tea producers in the world. Tea at the Empress is truly an elevated culinary experience. Afternoon Tea Time for One Workplace 1:30 pm Your experience includes the full Afternoon Tea.
